Colosseum, Forum & Caesar Augustus house

An early start to the day, as our tour started at 8:00am. Luckily not far from our hotel to the Colosseum.
The forecast called for rain, it looked like rain, and boy did it rain! Luckily it didn't pour until we were inside. We were dressed for it, but many weren't. The guys selling ponchos and umbrellas did well today!
The Colosseum has recently been cleaned, so it's no longer covered with scaffolding, and is almost the original color. We had another excellent guide & a fairly small group. The guide covered an amazing stretch of history & had many colorful stories to bring it to life. By the time we headed over to Palentine Hill the rain was mainly over, although it still came in fits and starts. The heavy rain had knocked out the power in part of Caesar Augustus house, but the frescos that we saw were wonderful, also in his wife Livia's house. We then had a wander through the Forum, or at least part of it. So much to see!
Afterwards, tired & hungry, we headed back to a recommended restaurant near our hotel, Taverna del Monti. I had Tortellini with tomato & basil sauce, and Eggplant Parmagena, and Karen had spaghetti with pecorino romano cheese & veal scallopini. Stuffed, we headed back to the hotel for a rest.
